Google is Cheating
Google is a search engine that makes researching topics so easy that it’s almost like cheating. For years I thought that research was difficult, so I would go to so many different sites just to make sure that I had everything I needed. I would print out every article or journal or website, highlight the needed areas, start writing my paper, then realize that I had way too much information.
I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter how many sources you have as long as you support your opinion. Researching is just that, supporting your ideas with people who either know more than you or by a mass of people, i.e. statistics, ect.
As far as Google goes, it is an excellent research technique as long as each site is checked for verification. I like using secondary research, as well as primary, because it can “bring a point home” so to speak. By framing a quote, in general, it shows the reader that they can trust the text because someone else says the same things the writer does.
Personally, researching helps me to form my argument to the fullest and most complete form. Good research can guide a weak paper into a strong one as well as help with formatting to get the best results for clear communication with the readers.
Overall, I don’t usually research for businesses as much as I do for academic writing, but since I have this blog, plus another, I am able to learn new techniques for quotes and for support of information.
